I'm the florist and designer behind Eliau Floral Design.

I've worked with flowers for more than a decade and what I love most about floristry is the opportunity to create with something so temporary. Flowers are only here for a short time, but they have an incredible ability to change the feeling of a space and become part of the memories we associate with a moment. 

 

I am also fascinated by the language of flowers and the way they have been used to communicate meaning. I love that flowers were once carefully chosen to send a message, with different varieties carrying their own symbolism. It's something I think about when selecting flowers, particularly for weddings. Each Eliau couple receives a handwritten note sharing the meanings behind some of the flowers chosen for their day, a small detail for them to keep after the flowers themselves are gone.

I'm drawn to texture, unusual shapes and the little imperfections that give flowers their character, an unexpected curve in a snapdragon stem will get me every time. Rather than trying to make every stem behave in the same way, I like to work with their natural shapes and let those details become part of the design. 

 

Through Eliau, I bring that love of flowers together with a personal approach to design. Whether I'm creating for a wedding, intimate celebration or an event, I want the flowers to add something to the experience, not simply decorate the space.
